This specimen was lot 30599 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles IV gold 8 Escudos 1792 So-DA MS61 NGC, Santiago mint. A bright example with sharp legends, a well-defined reverse shield and a touch of softness on Charles' portrait; the reverse surfaces remain in fully Select-level (MS63) quality! Extremely scarce in Uncirculated grades and the only example of the date to thus far breach the MS tier at NGC or PCGS." This type was struck 1791-1808 and is reasonably available. Note the use of Charles III's bust and the name of Charles IV.

Recorded mintage: 38,000.
