The first specimen was lot 888 in Aureo sale 291 (Barcelona, April 2017), where it sold for €750 (about US$963 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"(16)42. Guerra dels Segadors. Barcelona. 5 rals. Anv.: Busto entre V y R. LVD XIII D (G) R(...)CO (...)IN . Rev.: Roel en 1er y 4º cuartel. (...)O CI-VITAS-(16)42. Lluís XIII. Rara y más así. MBC+. (Barcelona, War of the Reapers, five reales of 1642. Obverse: bust of Louis XIII divides 'V-R'; reverse: rings in first and third quarters, pellets in second and fourth quarters. Rare in this quality, very fine or better.)"

The second specimen was lot 73024 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it did not sell. The catalog description[2] noted, "SPAIN. Barcelona. 5 Reales ND, (1641-43). Barcelona Mint. Louis XIII. PCGS EF-40. Here is a RARE and seldom encountered coin type. Louis XIII of France was Count of Barcelona for just two years, (1641-1643). This coin was minted in Barcelona during that period. Crude, as expected, yet missing from most Spanish and French collections." Lluís XIII is better known to history as Louis XIII of France. During the War of the Pyrenees (ended 1659), the French occupied Catalonia with the collaboration of the locals and struck coins there. This type was struck in Barcelona 1641-43 and is rare.

Reported Mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, the first specimen 11,86 g.

Catalog reference: Cayón-6966, KM 58 (listed under Catalonia rather than Spain), Cru.C.G. 4525a var, Cru.Segadors 223 var, Cal. 41.
