Aureo y Calicó sale 423, lot 1408

This specimen was lot 1408 in Aureo y Calicó sale 423 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 120 € (about US$155 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1642. Reaper's war. Manresa. 1 sisè. Principat. Slight defect in flan. Attractive. MBC+ [choice very fine]." During the War of the Pyrenees (ended 1659), the French occupied Catalonia with the collaboration of the locals and struck coins there. This is the only issue of this town during the Principat period. Narrow arms and wide arms (shown here) varieties exist. A five reales (KM 67) was struck in the name of Philip IV.
