Aureo y Calicó sale 423, lot 1412

This specimen was lot 1412 in Aureo y Calicó sale 423 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 85 € (about US$110 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1642. Reaper's war. Vilafranca del Penedès. 1 sisè. Principat. Rare. BC+/MBC-." During the War of the Pyrenees (ended 1659), the French occupied Catalonia with the collaboration of the locals and struck coins there. This is the only copper issue of this town during the Principat period. Some rare silver five sous and five reales also exist.
