This specimen was lot 23488 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI Dollar 1947 Pointed 7 4X-HP, MS63 ICCS, fully brilliant with minor contact marks, scarce date and variety. From The Nikita Collection." The "pointed 7" receives a premium over the "blunt 7" variety. The "maple leaf" variety was actually struck in 1948 while the mint was preparing tooling without the "ET IND IMP" on the obverse.
Recorded mintage: 65,595 plus 21,135 with maple leaf.
Specification: 0.800 fine silver, .600 troy oz ASW, designed by T. H. Paget and Emanuel Hahn.
