Canada 1947-ML dollar
This specimen was lot 24122 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI Specimen Dollar 1947 Maple Leaf, UNC Details PCGS Genuine SP (filed rims), prooflike surfaces with full mint brilliance, the rims have been lightly filed on both sides, presumably at the mint and after the coin was struck. Very scarce as a Specimen and quite attractive despite the rim filing. Ex-Pittman with the auction tag, #2447." The "pointed 7" receives a premium over the "blunt 7" variety. The "maple leaf" variety was actually struck in 1948 while the mint was preparing tooling without the "ET IND IMP" on the obverse.
Recorded mintage: 65,595 plus 21,135 with maple leaf.
Specification: 0.800 fine silver, .600 troy oz ASW, designed by T. H. Paget and Emanuel Hahn.
