Canada 1947 10 cents
This specimen was part of lot 26749 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), which sold for $763.75. The catalog description[2] noted, "Lot of Eleven Mint State Coins, Cents, 5 Cents and 10 Cents coins. Victoria-George VI. A most impressive grouping. Careful examination is a must." This type, struck at Ottawa 1937-47, is common in all grades. Mint officials were caught by surprise when the king announced that he was dropping "ET IND IMP" ("and Emperor of India") from his title and did not have any obverse hubs ready for 1948. Hence most of 1948's production was of 1947 dated coins with a maple leaf added to the reverse as a privy mark.
Recorded mintage: 4,431,926 plus 9,638,793 with the maple leaf reverse.
Specification: 2.31 g, 0.800 fine silver, .059 troy oz ASW, 18 mm diameter, reeded edge.
