Canada 1871 50 cents
This specimen was lot 20644 in Heritage sale 3008 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $5,750. The catalog description[1] noted, "Canada. Victoria 50 Cents 1871 Obverse 2, MS63 PCGS. From our September 2006 sale of the Dominion Collection, where it was described, 'Superbly struck with attractive gold, sea-green, and argent-gray toning over full underlying luster. Housed in a first generation PCGS green label holder. Only three pieces have been certified finer by PCGS.'" This type is notoriously dfficult to find in nice condition despite being minted in respectable numbers 1870-1901. This date is priced slightly higher than the commonest dates (1870 or 1900).
