Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 23068

This specimen was lot 23068 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 50 Cents, 1871-H. Birmingham (Heaton) Mint. Victoria. NGC AU-58. One of the SCARCER dates within the series, this attractively toned and lightly handled minor presents an appealing, alluring look and is tied with just two others for the top spot in the NGC census." This type is notoriously dfficult to find in nice condition despite being minted in respectable numbers 1870-1901.

Recorded mintage: 200,000.

Specification: 11.62 g, 0.925 fine silver, 29.72 mm diameter.
