Canada 1871 5 cents

from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70194

This specimen was lot 70194 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $432. The catalog description^[1] noted, "CANADA. 5 Cents, 1871. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. A lustrous and brilliant example featuring blazing, blast white surfaces. Immensely pleasing and attractive." This type was struck 1858 and 1870-1901 in substantial quantities and most dates are fairly plentiful up to Extremely Fine.

Recorded mintage: 1,400,000, a slightly better date.

Specification: 1.16 g, 0.925 fine silver, .034 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
