This specimen was lot 70437 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 25 Cents, 1871. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS VF-35 Gold Shield. Despite some use in circulation, this deeply toned minor remains entirely wholesome." This type was struck 1870-1901 and superseded the disliked twenty cent piece.

Recorded mintage: 400,000, a scarce date.

Specification: 5.81 g, 0.925 fine silver, .173 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
