from the Stack's Bowers June 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70437

This specimen was lot 70437 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $105. The catalog description^[1] noted, "CANADA. 25 Cents, 1871. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS VF-35 Gold Shield. Despite some use in circulation, this deeply toned minor remains entirely wholesome." This type was struck 1870-1901 and superseded the disliked twenty cent piece.

Recorded mintage: 400,000, a scarce date.

Specification: 5.81 g, 0.925 fine silver, .173 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
