Canada 1872-H 25 cents
This specimen was lot 20630 in Heritage sale 3008 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $1955. The catalog description[1] noted, "Canada. Victoria 25 Cents 1872-H 7/7, Obverse 2, MS64 PCGS. Although not noted on the holder, a close examination using the Charlton catalog determines that this is the 7/7 variety. Soft silvery-gray toning over full luster. Very scarce in this condition." This type was struck 1870-1901 and superseded the disliked twenty cent piece. This Heaton mint issue is the commonest date but like all Canadian quarters of the period, is very scarce in nice condition. The SCWC does not mention the 7/7 variety.
Recorded mintage: 2,240,000 (highest mintage date).
Specification: 5.81 g, 0.925 fine silver, .173 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
