This specimen was lot 7545 in Ponterio sale 152 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $4,255. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 50 Cents, 1870. No LCW. Toned. PCGS XF-45." This type was struck 1870-1901 in fairly large quantities but is hard to find in grades better than Fine. This variety, lacking the "LCW" (engraver's initials), is very rare.

Recorded mintage: 450,000 (all varieties).

Specification: 11.62 g, 0.925 fine silver, .3456 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
