Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1816-FR 24 mariengroschen
This specimen was lot 5573 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €260 (about US$362 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Karl II. 1815-1830. Unter Vormundschaft des Prinzregenten Georg von Großbritannien (später Georg IV.), 1815-1820. 24 Mariengroschen 1816, FR. Prachtexemplar. Fast Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Auctiones AG 4, Basel 1974, Nr. 805. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Charles II, 1815-30, under the regency of George IV of Britain, 1815-20, 24 mariengroschen of 1816. Choice example, about uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1815-18. Its silver content was 7/9 of a Prussian or Brunswick thaler (22.27 g, 0.750 fine) or 5/9 of a convention thaler (28.06 g, 0.833 fine) but the SCWC states that it was worth 2/3 of a thaler.
