Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1815-FR 1/24 thaler

from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70152

This specimen was lot 70152 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2020), where it sold for $100. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. 1/24 Taler, 1815-FR. Brunswick Mint. Fredrich Wilhelm. NGC MS-63. An alluringly toned and choice piece, this shimmering example presents exceptional golden highlights on the reverse." The SCWC states that this type of 1814-15 was worth one groschen, which is true if one speaks of a gute groschen or a mariengroschen. The regular groschen was 1/30 thaler. This type accompanied a 1/12 thaler (KM 1051) and a 1/6 thaler (KM 1052).
