This specimen was lot 73752 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. 1/24 Taler, 1820-MC. Karl II. PCGS MS-62. An attractive and interesting example of this one-year type, with a clear overdate on the last two digits. The strike quality is superb, with nicely original surfaces and deep gray toning." The SCWC states that this type of 1814-15 was worth one groschen, which is true if one speaks of a gute groschen or a mariengroschen. The regular groschen was 1/30 thaler. This type accompanied a 1/12 thaler and a 1/6 thaler. Frederick William died in 1815 at the battle of Waterloo.

Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.

Specification: 1.94 g, 0.375 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-1089.
