Künker sale 354, lot 5566

This specimen was lot 5566 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €460 (about US$640 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Friedrich Wilhelm, 1806-1815. 24 Mariengroschen 1815, FR. Äußerst seltener Jahrgang. Prachtexemplar. Fast Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Westfälische Auktionsgesellschaft 34, Dortmund 2006, Nr. 776. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Frederick William, 1806-15, 24 mariengroschen of 1815. extremely rare date, choice example.)"

This type was struck 1814-15 and is rather expensive. Its silver content was 7/9 of a Prussian or Brunswick thaler (22.27 g, 0.750 fine) or 5/9 of a convention thaler (28.06 g, 0.833 fine) but the SCWC states that it was worth 2/3 of a thaler. This denomination was also struck for Karl II in 1815 (KM 1065).
