Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1758-ACB thaler Dav-2149
This specimen was lot 579 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €600 (about US$809 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM Karl I. 1735-1780. Reichstaler preuß. 1758, Braunschweig. R Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Bernhard Terletzki. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 27, Osnabrück 1994, Nr. 2632. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Charles I, 1735-80, thaler of 1758, Brunswick mint. Scarce, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This type of 1758-59 was apparently struck to the Prussian standard (22.27 g, 0.750 fine) and is rather scarce. The next bust thaler (Dav-2151) was struck to the convention standard (28.06 g, 0.833 fine).
