This specimen was lot 74511 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 6 Mariengroschen (1/6 Taler), 1749-IBH. Zellerfeld Mint. Karl I. PCGS AU-55. A lovely argent specimen with subtle to bold lustrous surfaces exhibiting lovely golden, russet, and cobalt highlights. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck throughout Karl's long reign and is common. Six mariengroschen started out as one-sixth of a thaler but had slipped to an eighth thaler by the end of Karl's reign.
