This specimen was lot 5056 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$2,843 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, August Wilhelm, 1714-1731. Reichstaler 1717, Braunschweig, auf die 200-Jahrfeier der Reformation. RR Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 21, Osnabrück 1992, Nr. 2976. (duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Augustus William, 1714-31, thaler of 1717, Brunswick mint, bicentennial of the Reformation. Very rare, hansome patina, extremely fine.)"
This is a rare commemorative. Other thalers for 1717 include Dav-2126 (wild man) and Dav-2127 (leaping stallion).
