Brunswick-Blankenburg 1718-HCH thaler Dav-2133
This specimen was lot 5060 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €2,400 (about US$3,101 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Ludwig Rudolf, 1731-1735, seit 1714 in Blankenburg. Reichstaler 1718, Braunschweig. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich +. Exemplar der Auktion Bankhaus Aufhäuser 5, München 1988, Nr. 1874. (duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Louis Rudolf, 1731-35, since 1714 duke in Blankenburg, thaler of 1718, Brunswick mint. Very scarce, especially in this quality, handsome patina, choice extremely fine.)"
This thaler was struck 1715-27 for Louis Rudolf of Brunswick-Blankenburg, who did not attain the title of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel until the death of his brother in 1731. This thaler is quite scarce despite the nine dates of issue.
