Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73248

This specimen was lot 73248 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 12 Mariengroschen, 1699. Zellerfeld Mint. Rudolph August & Anton Ulrich. PCGS MS-61. Most attractively toned and without any signs of time in circulation, this enchanting minor sports an elegant and enticing overall look. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type, equal to one-third thaler, was struck 1686-1703 and is common. It accompanied a six and 24 mariengroschen with similar design.
