Kunker sale 293, lot 462

This specimen was lot 462 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €20,000 (about US$26,956 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM Heinrich Julius, 1589-1613. Löser zu 4 Reichstalern 1612, Zellerfeld. Münzmeister Heinrich Oeckeler. * HENRICVS · IVLIVS · D · G · POSTVL · EPISCOP · HALBE · DVX · BRVNS · ET · LV Der geharnischte Herzog reitet l. mit Kommandostab und umgelegtem, wehenden Mantel//HONESTUM Ã PRO - PATRIA Ã 1612 Fünffach behelmtes, 11feldiges Wappen mit Halberstädter Mittelschild, unten Kartusche mit eingepunzter Wertzahl. Preussag Collection (Auktion LCG/Künker 1) 19. RR Vorzügliches Prachtexemplar mit hübscher Patina. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Henry Julius, 1589-1613, quadruple thaler of 1612, Zellerfeld mint. Obverse: Armored, mantled and mounted duke rides to left, holding a marshal's baton; reverse: fivefold helmeted crest, manifold arms with escutcheon of Halberstadt, cartouche with denomination punched in below. Rare, extremely fine example with handsome patina.)"

This immense coin, similar to issues of 1608-10, was accompanied by a 1½ thaler (Dav-LS33a) and a triple thaler (Dav-LS31).
