Kunker sale 293, lot 466

This specimen was lot 466 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €10,000 (about US$13,478 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM Friedrich Ulrich, 1613-1634. Löser zu 4 Reichstalern 1617, Goslar oder Zellerfeld. Mit Wertpunze. Münzmeister Heinrich Oeckeler. * FRIDERICUS * ULRICUS * D · G · DUX * BRUNSVICENSIS * ET * LUNEBURG : * · Der geharnischte Herzog reitet r. mit hohem Hut, Kommandostab und umgelegtem, wehenden Mantel//* DEO * ET * PATRIÆ · * - * ANNO * DOMINI * 1617 * (Münzmeisterzeichen) Fünffach behelmtes, 11feldiges Wappen, zu den Seiten je ein wilder Mann mit Baumstamm, unten Kartusche mit eingepunzter Wertzahl. Obverse: the duke rides right with hat and marshal's baton; reverse: fivefold helmeted crest, manifold arms supported by wild men holding tree trunks, denomination punched into cartouche below. Very rare, fine patina, a few weak spots, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This immense coin was accompanied by a triple thaler (Dav-LS38).
