Künker sale 354, lot 5430

This specimen was lot 5430 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,500 (about US$2,088 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Friedrich Ulrich, 1613-1634. 1/2 Reichstaler 1617 (Jahresszahl im Stempel aus 1616 geändert), Goslar oder Zellerfeld. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Feine Patina, vorzüglich +. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 25, Osnabrück 1993, Nr. 1885. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Frederick Ulrich, 1613-34, half thaler of 1617 (1617/6 overdate), Goslar or Zellerfeld mints. Very scarce in this quality, choice example, fine patina, extremely fine or better.)"

This type is listed for 1614-32 and is common in circulated condition. A variety exists (KM 70) where the wild man holds the uprooted tree in his right hand. The overdate is not mentioned in the SCWC.
