from Künker sale 354, lot 5413

This specimen was lot 5413 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €4,200 (about US$5,845 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Julius, 1568-1589. 1/2 Reichstaler 1589, Wolfenbüttel, auf seinen Tod am 3. Mai. RR Feine Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Slg. Dr. Werner Koch, Teil 1, Auktion Dr. Busso Peus Nachf. 273, Frankfurt/Main 1970, Nr. 58 und der Auktion LHS Numismatik 100, Zürich 2007, Nr. 764. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Julius, 1568-89, half thaler of 1589, Wolfenbuttel mint, on his death on May 3. Very rare, fine patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"

We could not find this rare type in the SCWC. A thaler (Dav-9068) was also issued on this occasion.
