This specimen was lot 3791 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €650 (about US$851 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Heinrich Julius, 1589-1613. Reichstaler 1590, Goslar. Attraktives Exemplar mit hübscher Patina, vorzüglich/fast vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Henry Julius, 1589-1613, thaler of 1590, Goslar mint. Attractive example with handsome patina, about extremely fine.)"

This is an early "wild man" thaler and shows only one supporting the duke's arms instead of two as later became usual. It was issued 1589-90 and is fairly common.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 29.09 g.

Catalog reference: Dav-9069; Welter 634.
