Künker sale 354, lot 5606

This specimen was lot 5606 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €5,000 (about US$6,959 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Christian Ludwig, 1648-1665. Reichstaler 1658, Clausthal, auf den Tod seiner Tante Clara, Tochter Wilhelms von Lüneburg, Gemahlin des Grafen Wilhelm von Schwarzburg, am 18. Juli. RR Prachtexemplar. Attraktives Exemplar mit herrlicher Patina, vorzüglich +. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Slg. Köhlmoos, Auktion Münzen und Medaillen AG 91, Basel 2001, Nr. 167. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle, Christian Louis, 1648-65, thaler of 1658, on the death of his aunt Clara, daughter of William of Luneburg, wife of William of Schwarzburg. Very rare, choice example, attractive example with superb patina, extremely fine or better.)"

This particular death was also marked by a 1/24 thaler (KM 246). The duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle fell extinct in 1705 and passed to Hannover.
