This specimen was lot 73561 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Calenberg & Luneburg (Celle). Taler, 1660-HS. Zellerfeld Mint; mm: HS and crossed keys. Christian Ludwig. PCGS AU-50. This example exhibits steel gray surfaces with uneven mottled dark cobalt and sable toning. Lustrous with light wear, though with some softness of strike. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection. Ex: Coin Galleries Mail Bid Sale (16 November 1983), lot 1195 (with ticket)." This type was struck for Christian Ludwig 1654-62 and 1665. Christian Ludwig was duke in Calenberg 1641-48 and in Celle 1648-65. His younger brother Georg Wilhelm was duke in Calenberg 1648-65 and in Celle 1665-1705. The last brother, Ernst August, was duke in Calenberg 1679-98 and elector of Hannover 1692-98. Ernst August's son George inherited Calenberg and Hannover in 1698, Celle in 1705 and the throne of Great Britain in 1714.
