This specimen was lot 30856 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $3,360. The catalog description[1] noted, "Brunswick-Lüneburg-Celle. August I Taler 1636-HS MS61 PCGS, Zellerfeld mint. A rather scarce piece, this exceptional 'wildman' taler features a good deal of radiant luster, especially around the ornate shield. A hint of toning is scattered throughout, and creates further charm to its presence. A light flan crack is noted near the waist of the wildman, but is not overly distracting." The duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle fell extinct in 1705 and passed to Hannover. August the Elder was duke of Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle and bishop of Ratzeburg and his issues can be filed under Brunswick (where the SCWC has put them) or under Ratzeburg (where Davenport put them). Other thalers for 1636 include KM 115 (Dav-5732), KM 133 (Dav-5737A), KM 134.1 (Dav-6484), KM 134.2 (Dav-6485), KM 135 (Dav-5738), KM A132 (Dav-5736), KM A133 (Dav-5737).
