Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle 1632-HS 1/8 thaler
This specimen was lot 5586 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €2,000 (about US$2,784 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Christian, Bischof von Minden, 1611-1633. 1/8 Reichstaler 1632, Clausthal, auf den Tod seines Bruders Magnus am 10. Februar. Von großer Seltenheit. Feine Tönung, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Westfälische Auktionsgesellschaft 32, Dortmund 2005, Nr. 1342. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle, Christian, bishop of Minden, 1611-33, eighth thaler of 1632, Clausthal mint, on his death on February 10. Extremely rare, fine toning, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This death commemorative is very rare and is not listed in the SCWC. It was accompanied by a thaler and likely a quarter thaler and half thaler as well, altho these are not listed. The duke himself died the next year, killed in a battle of the Thirty Years War.
