Shown is an aluminum bronze 500 réis of the United States of Brazil. This is one of a series of circulating commemoratives issued in the 1920's and 1930's which today form an interesting but inexpensive set. This particular one commemorates regent Diogo Antônio Feijó (1784-1843) and was issued 1936-8. The denomination was abolished in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year.
Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
Specification: aluminum bronze, 4.8 g, 22.3 mm diameter, designed by Walter Toledo and Calmon Barreto.
