Copper-nickel 300 réis of the United States of Brazil. This is one of a series of circulating commemoratives issued in the 1920's and 1930's which today form an interesting but inexpensive set. This particular one commemorates composer Carlos Gomes (1836-96) and was issued 1936-38. The 300 réis was issued until its abolition in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year.
Recorded mintage: 4,507,000.
Specification: 8 g, copper-nickel, 25.2 mm diameter.
