Brazil 1932 400 reis KM-529

Copper-nickel 400 réis of the United States of Brazil. This is one of a series of circulating commemoratives issued in the 1920's and 1930's which today form an interesting but inexpensive set, noted for their bold design. This particular one commemorates the 400th anniversary of the colonization of Brazil. There are 100, 200, 300, 500, 1000 and 2000 réis (KM 527 thru KM 532) issued for the same occasion. The 400 réis gradually shrank (KM 503, KM 518, KM 527, KM 536 and KM 544) until its abolition in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year.

Recorded mintage: 416,000.
