Shown is a copper-nickel 100 réis of the United States of Brazil. This is one of a series of circulating commemoratives issued in the 1920's and 1930's which today form an interesting but inexpensive set. This particular one commemorates the 400th anniversary of the colonization of Brazil. There are 200, 300, 400, 500, 1000 and 2000 réis (KM 528 thru KM 532) issued for the same occasion. The 100 réis gradually shrank (KM 503, KM 518, KM 527, KM 536 and KM 544) until its abolition in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year.
Recorded mintage: 1,012,000.
Specification: 4.95 g, copper-nickel, 21 mm diameter.
