Brandenburg-Ansbach 1779 2-1/2 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 288 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €300 (about US$404 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG IN FRANKEN. Christian Friedrich Karl Alexander, 1757-1791. Konv.-Taler 1779, Bayreuth. Mit Stempelschneidersignatur W (Georg Heinrich Werner) am Armabschnitt sowie den Signaturen E - D (Johann Christian Eberhardt und Johann Gottfried Ambros Dietel) auf der Rückseite. Slg. Grüber (Auktion Künker 267) 4789. Sehr schön +. (margraviate of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, Christian Frederick Charles Alexander, 1757-91, convention thaler of 1779, Bayreuth mint, with engraver's initial's W and ED on the reverse. Very fine or better.)"
The line lapsed in 1791 and the provinces fell to Prussia, who in turn yielded them to Bavaria in 1806 as part of Napoleon's mediatization. This denomination was issued in various types 1767-86.
