Kunker sale 293, lot 288

This specimen was lot 291 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €80 (about US$108 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG IN FRANKEN. Christian Friedrich Karl Alexander, 1757-1791. 2 1/2 Kreuzer 1779, Schwabach. Münzmeister Peter Anton Kolb. Mit Brustbild auf der Vorderseite und Punkten in der Umschrift, die Rückseitenumschrift mit CONVENTIONS LAND MVNZ . 1779. Slg. Grüber (Auktion Künker 267) 4747. R Vorzüglich. (margraviate of Brandenburg-Ansbach, Christian Frederick Charles Alexander, 1757-91, 2½ kreuzer of 1779, Schwabach mint. Scarce, extremely fine.)"

Four other thalers are noted for 1779. The line lapsed in 1791 and the provinces fell to Prussia, who in turn yielded them to Bavaria in 1806 as part of Napoleon's mediatization.
