This specimen was lot 20624 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $3,818.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Brandenburg-Ansbach. Alexander Taler 1779-G, MS64 NGC, a gorgeous coin with rich gray patina and virtually perfect features and surfaces. Highly attractive and rare in this superior quality." This type was issued 1779 only and is listed as rather scarce. It comes not from the Electorate of Brandenburg (later the Kingdom of Prussia) but from Brandenburg-Ansbach, a Hohenzollern enclave west of Bavaria and neighboring Nuremburg. Several other thalers (Dav-2018, -2021, -2022, -2023) are listed for 1779.
