This specimen was lot 52210 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brandenburg-Ansbach. Medallic Taler, 1779. Schwabach Mint. Christian Friedrich Karl Alexander. NGC AU-53. Celebrating the Peace of Teschen. Obverse: Frontal view of the Temple of Janus, with doors closed; Reverse: Female personifications of France, holding wreath and with cloaked decorated with lis, and Russia, holding laurel branch and with cloak decorated with double eagles, standing facing one another and holding between them shields of Austria and Prussia garlanded together. Fairly SCARCE and enchanting, this pseudo-medallic issue retains a high degree of brilliance and displays only slight rub across the high points." This thaler, along with Dav-2022 and Dav-2023 was issued to celebrate the peace of Teschen. The line lapsed in 1791 and the provinces fell to Prussia, who in turn yielded them to Bavaria in 1806 as part of Napoleon's mediatization.
