The first specimen was lot 3962 in Goldberg sale 84 (Los Angeles, January 2015), where it sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Brandenburg-Ansbach. 4 Pfenning, 1782-S. Alexander. PCGS graded MS-66." We haven't added many German states minors to this website but we couldn't resist this handsome example from a type struck 1764-89. It comes not from the Electorate of Brandenburg (later the Kingdom of Prussia) but from Brandenburg-Ansbach, a Hohenzollern enclave west of Bavaria and neighboring Nuremburg. Four pfennig = one kreuzer. The second specimen was lot 1137 in Stephen Album sale 32 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2018), where it sold for $152.75. The catalog description[2] noted, "BRANDENBURG-ANSBACH: Alexander, 1757-1791, AR 4 pfennig, 1782-S, struck in Schwabach, PCGS graded MS65, ex Don Erickson Collection."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: billon.

Catalog reference: KM-273.
