Brabant in 1559, from Shepherd's atlas

This specimen was lot 1531 in Jean Elsen sale 145 (Brussels, September 2020), where it sold for €140 (about US$200 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Albert et Isabelle (1598-1621), Cu gigot, 1616, Bruxelles. Avec légendes de droit et de revers interverties. D/ Croix de Bourgogne entre la date, sous une couronne. R/ Ecu couronné. Rare. Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Albert and Isabella, 1598-1621, copper gigot of 1616, Brussels mint, with legends on the obverse. Obverse: Crowned Burgundian cross divides the date; reverse: crowned arms. Rare, Very Fine.)"

This type was also struck at Antwerp, s'Hertogenbosch and Maastricht. It was valued at half a liard.
