This specimen was lot 72454 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. 4 Soles, 1854-PTS MJ. Potosi Mint. PCGS AU-50. An attractive and limitedly circulated example, this handsome example delivers much eye appeal and charm." This type was struck in debased silver 1853-58. Production for 1854 was divded between assayer MF (1853-54) and MJ (1854-56). Altho there are rare varieties, the type is common.
