Stack's Bowers May 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71169

This specimen was lot 71169 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. 8 Soles, 1854-PTS M. Potosi Mint. NGC AU Details--Chopmarked, Cleaned. Some hairline friction across the surfaces and a few chops on the reverse account for the details designation from NGC. Despite its shortcomings, this example from a popular Bolivian type still presents ample detail." Altho the auctioneers catalouged this as KM 112.2, this is actually KM 112.1, struck 1852-56. Catalog number KM 112.2, struck 1854-55, had the value "8 S" added next to the date. Both are common.
