Künker Auction 426, lot 3089

This specimen was lot 3089 in Künker Auction 426 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €750 (about US$1,062 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HABSBURGISCHE ERBLANDE-ÖSTERREICH · RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Ferdinand II., 1592-1618-1637. Reichstaler 1628, Kuttenberg. Münzmeister Sebastian Hölzl. R Hübsche Patina, Kl. Henkelspur, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand II, 1618-37, thaler of 1628, Kuttenberg mint. Rare, handsome patina, small mount mark, very fine to extremely fine.)"

Bohemian thalers for 1625 include KM 354/Dav-3136 (Prague), KM 355/Dav-3143 (shown here), and KM 356/Dav-3141 (Joachimsthal). The SCWC lists this type for 1623-37. Kuttenberg, now Kutná Hora, was devastated during the Thirty Years War and the mines fell into ruin. Other Hapsburg thalers for 1628 include KM 599/Dav-3091 (Vienna), KM 600/Dav-3091A, KM 628/Dav-3108 (Graz), KM 629.2/Dav-3338 (Hall), KM 678/Dav-3124 (St. Veit), KM 700/Dav-3148 and KM 267.4/Dav-3353 (Ensisheim).
