Bern 1796 2 duplone Fr-186
This specimen was lot 3103 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 5,000 CHF (about US$7,253 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Bern, Stadt und Kanton, Doppelduplone 1796, Bern. Fast FDC. (Switzerland, city and canton of Bern, double duplone of 1796, Bern mint. About Mint State.)"
This type, struck 1796 only, depicts a standing soldier on the reverse. Another double duplone has a motto reverse (Fr-181). In Geneva, this coin was a double pistole; in Luzern, a 24 munzgulden, in Solothurn, a double duplone. The coin is modeled on a double louis d'or of France.
