Sincona sale 91, lot 3482

This specimen was lot 3482 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 1,800 CHF (about US$2,379 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Solothurn, Doppelduplone 1796, Solothurn. Laubrand. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Kratzer. (Switzerland, canton of Solothurn, double duplone of 1796, Solothurn mint. Very fine-extremely fine, Scratches.)"

This type was struck 1796-98, along with quarter, half and single duplones. Several of the cantons, including Luzern and Bern, struck double duplones in the 1790's.

Specification: 15.28 g, 0.900 fine gold, this specimen 15.27 g.
