Solothurn 1796 1/4 duplone Fr-393
This specimen was lot 3368 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 950 CHF (about US$1,378 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Solothurn, Stadt und Kanton, Viertelduplone 1796, Solothurn. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar. (Switzerland, canton of Solothurn, quarter duplone of 1796, Solothurn mint. Rare in this condition. NGC MS63, Finest certified by NGC.)"
This type was struck 1796 only and contained the same amount of gold as a half ducat. Half, one and double duplone exist and were struck in several cantons.
