This specimen was lot 1122 in Jean Elsen sale 110 (Brussels, September 2011) where it sold for € 120 (about US$193 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold II (1865-1909), AR 2 francs, 1866, Avec croix sur la couronne. Ref.: Nettoyée. Y ajouté: 1 frank 1887 NL (TB/SUP). presque Superbe. (Kingdom of Belgium, Leopold II (1865-1909), silver two francs of 1866, with cross on the crown. Cleaned, about extremely fine. Lot includes 1887 one franc, not shown.)"

The variety without the cross on the cross (KM 30.2) is listed as more common. Leopold II was hailed at the beginning of his reign as an enlightened, constitutional monarch, and later vilified for his activities in the Congo Free State.
