Belgium 1866 50 centiemen
This specimen was lot 1508 in Jean Elsen sale 154 (Brussels, March 2023), where it sold for €80 (about US$104 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
" BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold II (1865-1909), 50 centiemen, 1866 NL. Refrappe en argent. Tranche lisse. Petit coup sur la tranche. Fleur de Coin. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold II, 1865-1909, fifty centimes of 1866, Dutch legends, restrike in silver, plain edge. Minor rim nick, Uncirculated.)"
During the reign of Leopold II, to placate regionalist agitation, the government begin issuing coinage with French and Dutch legends. This type, with Dutch legends, was not struck until 1886, so this is a later restrike.
