Jean Elsen sale 136, lot 1116

This specimen was lot 1116 in Jean Elsen sale 136 (Brussels, March 2018), where it sold for €180 (about US$264 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), AR 1/4 de franc, 1835. Avec signature. Belle patine. Très Beau à Superbe. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I, 1831-65, quarter franc of 1835, with signature. Nice color, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck for Leopold I 1834-35 and 1841-44 with no date being really common. The variety without signature is priced substantially higher that that with.

Recorded mintage: 640,000.

Specification: 1.25 g, 0.900 fine silver.
